Morningside College announces winners of piano scholarship competition

Morningside College’s music department has announced the winners of the 2010 Elizabeth Sammons Piano Scholarship competition held recently on the college campus.

Chihiro Ogawa, a Morningside senior from Niigata, Japan, placed first. Second place went to Nicholas Anderson, a sophomore from Sioux City.

Ogawa and Anderson are piano students of Dr. Kathryn March, visiting assistant professor of music at Morningside.

First- and second-place winners receive a monetary award that can be used to defray the costs of applied piano lesson fees for the next academic year.

Feilin Lin, director of Feilin Lin’s School of Piano in Iowa City, Iowa, served as judge for this year’s competition.

The Elizabeth Sammons Piano Scholarship competition is held annually at Morningside College. The scholarship is named after longtime Sioux City businesswoman Elizabeth Sammons.
