Biology professors at Morningside College receive grant from Iowa DNR

Two biology professors at Morningside College have received $2,493 from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to survey the Loess Hills in Monona County.

Jim Stroh, associate professor and chair of biology and chemistry, and William Heyborne, assistant professor of biology and chemistry, will determine the distribution and abundance of reptiles and mammals within the Sylvan Runkel Preserve and the Loess Hills Wildlife Management Area.  The study will primarily focus on the plains pocket mouse, the ornate box turtle, the prairie racerunner and the bullsnake.

Stroh has been a professor with Morningside since 1997.  He has his doctorate in rangeland ecology from Texas A&M University in College Station.  Heyborne has been with Morningside since 2007 and has his doctorate in biological education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
