Symphonic wind ensemble to present spring concert

The Morningside College Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform in concert on Saturday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Avenue.

The public is invited to the free concert, which is sponsored by Morningside’s Academic and Cultural Arts Series (ACAS).

The symphonic wind ensemble is conducted by Clifford Towner, assistant professor of music and director of bands at Morningside.

The ensemble’s trumpet section of Ashley Catchpole, a junior from Clymer, Pa.; Mike Wismont, a junior from Crescent, Iowa; and Jessica Rix, a sophomore from Sioux Rapids, Iowa; will be featured during a performance of the Alexander Tcherepnin composition “March.”

The concert program will also feature music by composers David Maslanka, Jan Van der Roost, David Stanhope, Samuel Hazo, and a Denis Wright arrangement of the Gustav Holst composition “A Moorside Suite.”

Towner has been at Morningside since 2004. He was previously a graduate teaching assistant of music at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, and the music director at Archbishop McNicholas High School and Lynchburg-Clay Local Schools in Ohio. Towner graduated from the University of Cincinnati and holds a master’s degree in music from Wright State.
