Morningside College to host Family Weekend 2007

Families of Morningside College students will have the opportunity to attend a variety of campus events when Morningside College hosts Family Weekend 2007, “Have A Ball,” on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 20-22.

Morningside’s annual family weekend is hosted by the Parents Council, with assistance from the Alumni Relations Department and other college departments.

The activities will begin on Friday with a Mustangs softball double-header against Concordia University of Nebraska at 3 p.m. at the Jensen Softball Complex on Morningside’s campus.

Throughout the weekend families are invited to attend a performance of “Dancing at Lughnasa,” which will be presented by the Morningside College department of theatre on Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Klinger-Neal Theatre, 3700 Peters Avenue. General admission is $5 for adults and $1 for students. Reservations can be obtained by calling the Klinger-Neal Theatre box office at (712) 274-5196.

A performance by the improv comedy group Comedy Sportz is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. Friday night in Buck’s in the lower level of the Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Avenue. The comedy event, sponsored by the Morningside Activities Council (MAC), will include two teams battling for laughs and points as they make up scenes, games and songs on the spot.

On Saturday, a luncheon featuring entertainment by the Morningside College Jazz Choir and Comedy Sportz will be held at 12:00 p.m. in the Yockey Family Community Room in the Olsen Student Center. An entertainment workshop will be held at 2 p.m. in the Yockey Family Community Room and Buckingham’s Snack Bar. The workshop, facilitated by Comedy Sportz, will give participants the opportunity to learn more about improv comedy.

Sunday’s events will include a brunch from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Olsen Student Center, followed by a Mustangs’ softball double-header against Doane College at 1:00 p.m. at the Jensen Softball Complex.

Registration will be held Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Jensen Softball Complex and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Olsen Student Center. Registration is recommended. To register or for additional information, call (712) 274-5107.

The Parents Council was formed in 2002 to develop and implement programs that involve parents in ways that are meaningful to them and beneficial to the college. The Parents Council is comprised of parents of current students or of former students who have graduated from Morningside. The council conducts its work through subcommittees that focus on assisting in the college’s admissions efforts, in the development of various parent publications, and the planning of family events.
