Are
you confused too?
Hopefully,
by reading through this page, I'll answer some of your concerns.
First of all, you know you've reached Blackboard when it
says "Welcome (Your
Name Here)". By now you've made it through one big step, getting
to the welcome page. Consequently, understanding this page may
serve as a new task. By running through basic structure of the
site, I hope to provide you with a couple tips, so interacting
with Blackboard
will be
less
of
a
challenge.
First
off ignore all of the blue boxes except the one
that says “My
Courses”
This box lists all of the courses you are enrolled in. The courses
are listed by your function within the course. So courses that
you are teaching are listed before courses that you are a student,
teaching assistant, or fulfilling some other role in. The name
of the course is a functional link to that courses page. Clicking
on is the easiest way to enter a course.
Off
to the left are two boxes with green headers. The lower
one “Search
the Web” is self explanatory but
the upper ones has some cool tools.
| “Announcements” button
takes you to the announcement hub where you can choose
to view all announcements or just ones from a specific
course. |
| “Calendar” will
allow you to enter your personal events. Like that big
concert that I am going to attend at the end of the month. |
| “Tasks” acts
like your electronic to-do list so that you can remind
yourself that you need to shop for your mother’s
birthday present, it also displays all of the tasks your
instructors have set for you. |
| “My
Grades” will allow you to keep track of
your standing in your classes. |
| “Personal
Information” allows you to edit your information,
change your password, and set your privacy settings. |
Now
back to the boxes with blue headers which we had previously ignored.
These boxes
were “My Announcements”, “My Calendar”,
and “My Tasks”. Here I explain a little bit about
them
“My
Announcements” lists the subjects of the most recent
announcements from your courses. These announcements are listed by
course and clicking on the subject listed under a course will take
you to the announcement hub with only the announcements from that
specific course showing.
“My
Calendar” shows the first event scheduled for
the day and gives the option to view the rest of the scheduled
events.
“My
Tasks” list the tasks that are due that day dividing
them between personal and course tasks.
