Live for Life Program

The Morningside Wellness “Live for Life” Program is designed to reward participants for their good exercise habits and daily activity.  Members from the Morningside community have come together as a committee to create a program that seeks to improve overall health and lower rising health insurance costs.  There is no cost to employees to join the Wellness Program.

Here’s how to participate:

  1. Start by being active!

The Live for Life program recognizes all types of physical activity, not just “formal” exercise. This includes: cardiovascular activity, weight training, fitness classes, sports, and even household chores.

The US Surgeon General reports that “Men and women of all ages benefit from a moderate amount of physical activity. The same moderate amount of activity can be obtained in longer sessions of moderately intense activities (such as 30 minutes of brisk walking) as in shorter sessions of more strenuous activities (such as 15 minutes of jogging)."

  2. Fill out the log.
    • Fill out the monthly exercise log.
    • Logs are available on the Human Resources web page.  If you would like a hard copy there was one in the packet of information you received on the day of testing or contact the Human Resources Office for one. Logs need to be sent via email, please email to watsonb@morningside.edu or welp@morningside.edu.
    • Don’t forget to put your name on the log.
    • Fill in your activities and record the number of POINTS earned for each activity that you participated in that day.  By using the log on the Human Resources website, your points will automatically be totaled for you at the end of each week and each month.

  3. Turn your log in.
    • Turn your completed log in to Beth Watson or Cindy Welp via email or dropping it off at the Business Office by the 5th day of each month.
    • You will be awarded an “Incentive Prize” for every level you reach.  You can only obtain one level a month but don’t stop working if you reach a level early in the month.  Keep working to continue your healthy lifestyle.
    • Note: You can receive points from the Activity Conversion System and the All-Around Wellness Points.  (Both of these charts can be found by clicking this link: Charts).  All-Around points are valued at one point per one item from the list.  They are limited to six per month, two from each category, excluding the bonus points section.  The bonus points can be earned at any time since most are done annually.

The screening includes a health risk appraisal - the blood screen includes a CBC, full cholesterol panel, liver & kidney function screen, diabetes screen and 45 blood components are checked.  By participating in the annual health screen and joining the Wellness Program, your monthly health insurance premiums will be reduced, if you are enrolled in the college health insurance.   If you are not enrolled in the health insurance plan and have joined the Wellness Program and elect to participate in the annual health screen as well, you will receive $10.00 off the price of the blood screening.

The only individuals who see your results are the medical professionals at St. Luke’s Medical Center.  The results are sent to Carol Garvey in a sealed envelope and she distributes the envelopes to those who participated.  The results let you know how you fared on each test and if you need to get immediate follow up care from your physician.  You receive two copies of the test results and are encouraged to send one copy to your physician, so that they have record of the blood tests performed and the results.
