“Sunrise in Auckland” by Nic Austin
Taken atop Mount Eden, an inactive volcano located in Auckland, during the New Zealand 2011 course with Dr. Aaron Bunker, assistant professor of biology, and Dr. Jodi McKay, assistant professor of biology.
“This photo is meaningful to me because this is the first town we visited in New Zealand as well as the first large tourist attraction we visited.” |

“Countdown” by Haley Banks
Taken in London, England, during the Exploring London course with Dr. Marty (Steele) Knepper 1972, professor and chair of English.
“This photo was taken in Trafalgar Square, which is located right in front of the National Gallery. Trafalgar Square is always buzzing with both tourists and locals who are out enjoying the noise of the fountain and breaking for lunch. Placed next to the fountain is a digital countdown to the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, which are being held in London. The city is overhauling much of its public transportation system, as well as tourist attractions and sporting arenas, in preparation for the Olympic Games, which are anticipated to be the greenest games ever. In this photo, the contrast between the new sign, the old museum, the spraying water, and the busy people struck me as a particularly interesting shot.”

Untitled Photo by Kyle Bubb
Taken during a May Term experience teaching at Hwa Nan College in Fuzhou, China.
“This photo was taken during a night boat cruise in Fuzhou, China. The boat traveled along the Min River, which has downtown-like areas on each side. Most of the buildings along the river had lights similar to these buildings. In fact, it was rare if the buildings we passed didn't have lights all over them. This was a breathtaking part of the May Term trip. It gave me a sight of China that I had never expected to see.” |

“A View through Stonehenge” by Samantha Hansen
Taken at Stonehenge in Wiltshire during the Exploring London course with Dr. Marty (Steele) Knepper 1972, professor and chair of English.
“I woke up early in the morning and took a bus ride to Wiltshire from London to see the monument. It was a special day for me because it was also my 19th birthday. Although it was pretty cold and very windy around the monument, it was still absolutely stunning to see in person. This picture is meaningful to me because it was a truly unforgettable way to spend my birthday. Along with other events that day, it was a great experience. This history of Stonehenge is intriguing, and while the monument doesn't look like it did originally, this photo shows the original outer circle. I thought it was really cool that you could see through the outer circle to the landscape beyond. Stonehenge represents architecture that still remains somewhat of a mystery, and it is truly stunning.” |

“Rising Up” by Leah Nielsen
Taken in Auckland on Mount Eden on the first morning of the trip during the New Zealand 2011 course with Dr. Aaron Bunker, assistant professor of biology, and Dr. Jodi McKay, assistant professor of biology.
“When we arrived in New Zealand, the sun was just rising. We had an incredible view of Auckland from the top of this mountain. We saw several rugby athletes training here. We overlooked everything in Auckland including the newly constructed site of the 2011 Rugby World Championships, Eden Park, and New Zealand's tallest man-made structure, the Sky Tower. Later we went to the top of this tower and watched a rugby game in Eden Park. The first day in New Zealand was incredible. I knew that the rest of the trip would be a life changing experience and one I would never forget.” |

“40,000 Eyes on Us” by Allison Von Ehwegen
Taken during a Twins game at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minn., during the Sabermetrics: The Study of Baseball course with Dr. Christopher Spicer, assistant professor of mathematical sciences.
“The Twins welcomed the groups in attendance at the game. We were all very excited to see Morningside College on the scoreboard! We all cheered during the fourth inning, and the surrounding fans weren't quite sure what to think. Even though the Twins lost, it was an awesome trip to Minneapolis.” |

“And People Jump Off That?!” by Derek L. White
Taken of the Sky Tower in Auckland during the New Zealand 2011 course with Dr. Aaron Bunker, assistant professor of biology, and Dr. Jodi McKay, assistant professor of biology.
“As our group was rounding the street corner, we heard a shriek from above. Lo and behold, a girl was falling from the sky. It seems New Zealanders have a knack for discovering things to jump off of. At 328 meters, roughly twice the height of Seattle's Space Needle, this is no mere feat (especially if you are afraid of heights like me). To put it into perspective, I snapped a picture of the Sky Tower alongside a 20-foot street light. Although I didn't dare to take the plunge, I am proud to have ventured to the top.” |

“Chinese River Walk” by David Young
Taken on a night cruise on the Min River during a May Term experience teaching at Hwa Nan College in Fuzhou, China.
“This photo is meaningful to me because it shows a country that was once anti-Western and is now trying to diversify its culture by erecting buildings with Western influence.” |
