The Morningside College experience cultivates a passion for life-long learning

and a dedication to ethical leadership and civic responsibility.

Celebrating 110 Years!

In 1894, on Dec. 4-5, Methodist Episcopal clergy and laymen gathered in Sioux City, Iowa, to establish Morningside College. These 27 men formed the college's first board of trustees. Today's board of directors has 33 members, as well as representatives from the faculty, alumni, and student body. President John Reynders is Morningside's 12th president.

Morningside College, which has remained affiliated with the United Methodist Church, enrolled 1,204 full-time and part-time students for the fall 2004 semester. The college has 65 full-time faculty members, nearly all of whom have the highest possible credentials in their fields, some 200 administrative and staff employees, and more than 10,000 alumni-of-record. Morningside offers more than 30 majors and was a pioneer in the use of technology to enhance the educational experience, having provided computers to students since 1993. Students can also take advantage of such co-curricular activities as Student Government, athletics, student groups and clubs, and more, all of which are an integral part of the Morningside experience.

Morningside's oldest building, Charles City Hall, built in 1890, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The 59-acre campus has been recognized locally for its beauty. The college's newest buildings, built in 2003, are the Joan L. and Norman W. Waitt, Sr., and the Donald E. Poppen Apartments. Made possible by a grant from The Kind World Foundation, these new student apartments are just one of the capital projects financed by "This is Our Moment": The Campaign for Morningside College.

Morningside is a strong institution today because of the people who have been part of the Morningside family through the years, and many of their stories are beautifully captured in the book Morningside College: A Centennial History, written by Morningside alumnus Tim Orwig. To read more about today's Morningsiders, visit the Latest News page or view the latest edition of The Morningsider, the magazine for the alumni and friends of the college. To share your stories about Morningside College, please contact the magazine's editor or the college's alumni office.

Congratulations to Morningsiders everywhere as we proudly celebrate 110 years!
