The COLLEGE FOR YOUTH at Morningside College incorporates several programs for various age groups.
In 2002, a program was started for
home-schooled students to provide access to laboratory facilities for
hands-on scientific inquiry. This residential program is for students
in grades 6-12.
In 2003, the College for Youth program was restarted after several years of inactivity. This program was originally for gifted students in grades 5-8.
Also in 2003, the HOME-SCHOOL
program was expanded to provide a non-residential program for students
in grades 2-5.
In 2004, a new college-level program, PATHWAYS, was approved for students entering grades 9 and higher. At this time, the old College for Youth was renamed Explore, and the Home-school programs, Explore and Pathways were all incorporated into the College for Youth. The faculty of Morningside College approved the courses offered under the PATHWAYS program for college credit.
For 2005, the long-running AEROSPACE
EDUCATION CAMP for grades 1-5 joined the program and an experimental
program, SUMMER INSTITUTE, began for grades 6-8.
For 2006, PATHWAYS and the HOME-SCHOOL
programs will not be offered, but the AEROSPACE EDUCATION CAMP and
SUMMER INSTITUTE will continue.
