1957
Tom and Laura (Treptow) Gerkin 1955
, of Dakota Dunes, S.D., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family cruise to the Hawaiian Islands. The Gerkins were married July 10, 1957, at the Methodist Church in Kingsley, Iowa.

1958
Ray Clause
and his, wife, Irene celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family the week of Aug. 11 in Branson, Mo. Those who celebrated with them included their son, David Clause 1983, and daughter, Karen (Clause) Michels 1985.

Don Jorgensen
and his wife, Barbara, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 18 with a family dinner at Kahill’s Steak-Fish & Chophouse in South Sioux City, Neb.

1967
Nikki Watlington retired in 2001 from the Kansas City Missouri School District after almost 35 years as a teacher and curriculum coordinator. She lives in Leawood, Kansas, with her husband, Phil. They spend their time traveling to places such as Russia, China, Prague, Tibet, and Hong Kong. Nicki does volunteer work in the community and special projects for the school district, and she also works with Phil on his writing. Phil recently published The World is at Your Door, a book which explores the serious issues we all face as neighbors in the new interconnected and interdependent global community. Jeff and Kathy (Marbach) Montgomery
live in the Portland, Ore., area. Jeff is a lumber broker for Hampton Lumber Affiliates, and Kathy has been teaching for four years in the School of Education at the University of Portland. Kathy previously taught elementary physical education for 20 years in the Beaverton School District. Kathy was selected as one of the top 100 teachers in the Disney Teacher of the Year competition in 2003 and was selected to serve on the State Superintendent’s Outstanding Educator Forum for the 2005-07 school years. She also worked on the Beaverton School District Physical Education (PE) Project Team that wrote the newly adopted PE content standards and assessment tools to coordinate with the newly adopted state and national PE standards. Barbara (Clarke) Oakland
is an English as a Second Language teacher at Iowa Central Community College in Storm Lake, Iowa.  The Rev. Jerry Oakland was appointed senior pastor at Storm Lake United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.

JoAnn (Richa) Savary
and her husband, Ernie, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house for family and friends on July 22 at Aggie’s Restaurant in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. They were married June 22, 1957, at First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City, Neb.

Jo Ellen (Guthrie) Mattingly
is a teacher of talented and gifted students at Montevallo Elementary School in Montevallo, Ala.

The Rev. Daniel Anderson
is the associate pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux City. His wife, the Rev. Martha (Considine) Anderson 1977, is the pastor at Trimble and Church of All Nations United Methodist Churches in Sioux City. Their daughter, Bridget (Anderson) Schuster 2003, is a special education teacher at Harding Middle School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Janet (Swanson) Gill
was named dean of enrollment services at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. She is responsible for the college’s recruitment, admissions, retention, financial aid, and registration processes.

The Rev. Isaac Gentry
is pastor and systems test analyst at Friendship Baptist Church in Ames, Iowa.

Bill R. Hackett
is the controller at Siouxland Ethanol in Jackson, Neb.


Mark O’Connell is senior site manager at Edge Teleservices Inc. in North Sioux City, S.D.

1987
Amy Dunker
signed a contract to be an author/composer for Alliance Publications Inc. in Sinsinawa, Wis. Dunker is an associate professor of music at Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. Her recent book, Music Scholarship Money! The Winning Music Scholarship Audition – An Insider’s Guide, is a step-by-step guide through the college music audition process for entering college students. The book is available in both E-book and print formats. Alliance Publications also publishes Dunker’s Strings Around the World series that emulates music from a wide variety of cultures and incorporates opportunities for improvisation. Dunker also has works for band, choir, and chamber ensembles published through Alliance Publications.


Bill Gates was named operations manager at Alorica in North Sioux City, S.D. Gates, who was previously a team manager, leads the day-to-day operations for one of Alorica’s major clients.


Nineties
1993
Rosanne Lienhard
was elected president of the Iowa State Bar Association (ISBA) Public Service Project Board of Directors at the organization’s annual board meeting in June 2007 in Des Moines. Lienhard will lead the organization for the next year and head the executive board. The mission of the ISBA Public Service Project is to facilitate pro bono within the legal profession and to assist low-income Iowans by increasing their accessibility to the civil legal system.


Amy Poland received a doctorate in criminal justice in August 2007 from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Poland is an assistant professor of criminal justice at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.


Karla Uhlir received the Junior League of Sioux City’s 2006-07 Volunteer of the Year Award. The award was one of several presented annually to recognize and celebrate outstanding Junior League members for their contributions over the last year of service.


1996
Brad Barron
of Midlothian, Va., is a special investigations director for Nationwide Insurance.


Kristen Bryan Wessel completed her Master of Science in Nursing degree with the University of Phoenix in January and has accepted a faculty position with the University of Nebraska Medical Center's College of Nursing in Omaha, Neb.


Jason Shriver earned a master’s degree in business administration in December 2006 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is manager of real estate finance for Borders Group Inc. in Ann Arbor.

is a veterinarian at Tea Veterinary Clinic in Tea, S.D.

Travis Bellinghausen
joined the creative direction firm Turnpost Creative Group in Omaha, Neb., as an art director for both print and interactive services.


Beth (Elsen) Kinman lives in West Des Moines, Iowa, with her husband, Tom. She teaches eighth-grade band and jazz band at Indianola Middle School in Indianola, Iowa.


Brian Newberg was appointed vice president and general manager for Sabre Communications in Sioux City.

received an education specialist degree in educational leadership from Drake University in May 2007. He accepted a position as a sixth- through 12th-grade principal at Whiting Community School in Whiting, Iowa.

Adam Webb
was a guest soloist during a presentation of Joseph Haydn’s “Paukenmesse” (Mass in Time of War) on April 28, 2007, at Christ Chapel in Orange City, Iowa.


Emily (Omer) Winterwood is a computer programmer at Priority Data Systems in Omaha, Neb.


Heidi Young is a DNA analyst for the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory in Madison.

Taera Stille
recently graduated from the Des Moines University physician assistant program and has accepted a position with Iowa Kidney Physicians as a physician assistant in Des Moines, Iowa.

Blaine Ball
is a software developer for DST Systems in Kansas City, Mo.


Rebecca Limke was promoted to a residential therapist position at Jackson Recovery Centers’ Women and Children’s Center in Sioux City. Limke provides individual and group therapy to patients.


2007
Josh Johnson
is a fifth-grade science and reading teacher at Dakota Valley Middle School in North Sioux City, S.D.


Missy Keiper accepted a position as account coordinator at J.D. Gordon Advertising in Sioux City. Keiper was Sioux City’s 2007 River-Cade queen.


Stacy Pearson is a graphic designer at J.D. Gordon Advertising in Sioux City.


Shawn Robinson was a member of the Team USA football team that defeated Japan 23-20 in double overtime in the title game of the six-team World Championship of American Football tournament held in July in Japan. Robinson, who started in the offensive line for Team USA, was selected to the 24-player World Championship of American Football All-Star Team released by the International Federation of American Football. He is also an assistant coach for the Morningside football team as the Mustangs’ wide receivers position coach.


Ryne Young is teaching kindergarten and coaching basketball and baseball for the Denison Community School District in Denison, Iowa.


DEATHS - In Loving Memory


1950

Leonard E. Corkhill, Chesterfield, Mo., died Aug. 16, 2007, of pulmonary fibrosis. He was 81. Corkhill spent nearly his entire career in St. Louis, Mo., in the credit industry. He is survived by his wife, Greta; daughters, Debbie, Lettie, and Vickie; and four grandsons.
