1929
Anne (Aalfs) Schaff celebrated her 100th birthday on May 11, 2008, and was featured in the February 2008 issue of Connections: The Monthly Newspaper of the North Central New York Conference of the United Methodist Church. Anne is the widow of the Rev. Lester Schaff. She lives at Kendal at Ithaca in New York. The newspaper article shared memories from throughout Anne’s life. Among other things, she served several years as vice president for United Methodist Women in New York’s Elmira District and four terms as president of Church Women United in Elmira. She also was dean of the School of Mission at Keuka College in New York.

1966
Marcia (Cox) Ahlrichs retired from public school teaching for the Manson Northwest Webster Community Schools in Iowa. She still teaches piano and organ to 20 students ranging in ages from 8 to 84 and directs the adult choir at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rockwell City, Iowa. She and her husband, David, also run Pine Grove Bed and Breakfast out of their home in Rockwell City.

Jane McClure accepted a position as associate director of academic advising for Career Avenues at Bellevue University in Nebraska. Her primary responsibility is implementation of the institution-wide Career Avenues Initiative.

Lt. Col. Sara (Ulven) Salansky of Parker, Colo., retired from the United States Air Force Reserve in January 2009 after 20 years of service.

1998
Matt Campbell was elected president of the Sioux City Growth Organization for 2009. Campbell is a commercial lender at Security National Bank in Sioux City.

2005
Genoveva Arreola, corporate college coordinator at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, was the recipient of the 2008 Rookie of the Year Award from the Iowa Association for Lifelong Learning. Arreola was recognized for outstanding accomplishment in her first year of employment at Western Iowa Tech. Her achievements included a significant increase in the number and variety of community and continuing education offerings at the college; the enhancement of class offerings through the development of community partnerships; and the creation of community education events through co-sponsorships with area organizations. |

Dr. Albert W. Buckingham, Sioux City, died Nov. 27, 2008. Buckingham was a longtime coach and athletic director at Morningside who later served the college as its first director of public relations and as vice president for estate planning. He was a past president of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, and president of the United States Collegiate Sports Council. The Buckingham M-Club Room in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center-Allee Gym, a gathering room featuring a variety of Morningside sports memorabilia, was named in his honor and dedicated on Nov. 9, 2007.
