What is the Telethon?
The Telethon is an annual fund program under the direction of the Development Office. Between 25-30 students are hired and trained to call alumni and friends of the college. Our goal is to update addresses and employment data, build relationships, and raise money for student scholarships at Morningside College. It is also a valuable way we can keep in touch with our alumni and friends.

When is the Telethon held?
Beginning in September through the first week in May, our student callers will call more than 7,000 alumni and friends. [back to top]
How long do I have to fulfill my pledge?
The Annual Fund’s fiscal year begins on June 1 and ends on May 31.

Why do students work for the Telethon?
Because they care about Morningside College and realize how important the Telethon funds are to maintaining the strength of the college. The money raised during the Telethon is spent on things important to the students – scholarships. Working in the Telethon gives students the opportunity to know they are making a difference and earn some money for college. It also allows them to talk with Morningside College alumni giving them the chance to learn about Morningside's past and maybe even network their way into an internship or job after graduation.

How successful is the Telethon?
The Telethon is extremely successful! In 2008, more than 2,200 alumni and friends of Morningside College gave over $135,000 through the Telethon. Gifts to the Telethon range from $5 to $1,000. Regardless of the amount of your gift, you have an impact on today’s students and are making an investment in the future of Morningside College and the value of your own degree. Each gift is one vote of confidence for Morningside College and one more plus in our donor participation rate. [back to top]
Why do people give to the Telethon?
Alumni and friends of Morningside College donate to help current students, because they believe in our mission. They want to give back to the institution that helped them achieve success, and they know they will be improving the quality of student life by helping to provide scholarships. [back to top]
Do Telemarketing laws apply to the Telethon?
No. Morningside College is exempt from the do-not-call registry, because the federal government realizes private giving is essential for campuses to cover unmet tuition costs and other enhancements. [back to top]
Who do I contact if I have more questions or comments?
Kari Winklepleck, Director of Annual Fund by e-mail bull@morningside.edu or call
712-274-5450. [back to top]
