The Indiana University Center for Postsecondary Research and Planning and the Indiana University Center for Survey Research developed The Beginning College Student Survey of Engagement (BCSSE) at the request of colleges and universities who use the NSSE.  The purpose of the survey is to provide higher education institutions with information about entering students past engagement in and perceptions about the importance of activities associated with best practice.  Student responses on the BCSSE will later be matched to their responses on the NSSE, administered at the end of the freshmen year.

Morningside College participated in the BCSSE for the first-time in the Fall 2005 pilot of the survey.
