The mission statement for Morningside College appears at the bottom of this page. This mission statement grew from our belief that a college education should be a transforming experience that certainly prepares students for careers, but that also prepares students for life.   The values that are exemplified in this mission statement are based on our connection with the United Methodist Church , but are also appropriate for and welcoming to all individuals.

You will notice that the mission statement has three components.   First, the Morningside College experience cultivates a passion for life-long learning.  This is, perhaps, the most important thing that we can do for students.  Our world is changing at a very rapid rate and it is important to be adaptable.  A passion for life-long learning enables adaptability.   Studies indicate that college graduates will change careers, not just jobs, four to five times after they graduate.  Those who will be successful will have the ability and the desire to continue to learn and grow.

The second component describes a dedication to ethical leadership.  At Morningside College we are educating tomorrow's leaders.  We want them to be effective leaders who behave in an ethical fashion and we will provide experiences during their college years that encourage ethical actions.  Ethical leaders also know how to be effective followers, thus we will educate students who can be productive citizens.

Finally, we want our graduates to have a sense of civic responsibility.   We believe that developing such a sense of responsibility is critically important for a college educated person.   Morningside students are involved in many community service projects and service learning is an important component of our curriculum. Morningside graduates will be willing and able to contribute to their communities.
