Morningside's Department
of Graduate Studies, which offers a master of arts in teaching
degree, is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation
of Teacher Education (NCATE). Of the 30-some institutions
in Iowa with teacher-training programs, only five are accredited
by NCATE, and Morningside College is one of only two institutions
that have received accreditation for both their undergraduate
and graduate teacher training programs.
The graduate program
was established in 1967. Morningside and Iowa's Area Education
Agencies (AEA) have been working together to provide graduate
programming for Iowa educators for more than 12 years. Today
well over one-fourth of Morningside's undergraduate student
body is enrolled in teacher education, and more than 400 Iowa
teachers are enrolled in the graduate program.
