Faculty

Qualified teachers at all levels will be in high demand for years to come.  The Morningside College Education Department offers programs leading to professional teaching credentials in many different areas, including elementary education, special education, and secondary education in subject areas such as English, math, or history.  The Education department emphasizes the importance of being an "Effective Educator" --a caring professional who creates interactive learning environments responsive to the diverse needs of students and society.

The Education Department is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is approved by the State of Iowa for teacher certification.

To apply to the Teacher Education program, complete this online application, print it, and bring it with you when you visit the department office.

Elementary Education major (B.S.): Students who are completing an elementary education single major are also required to complete a 12-hour concentration in a field for which Iowa has a teaching endorsement.
To apply for Elementary Education student teaching, click on elementary application, fill out the form, print it, and bring it to the Education Department.

Secondary Education: The Secondary Education major is a dual major; students must complete another major.

To apply for Secondary Education student teaching, click on secondary application, fill out the form, print it, and bring it to the Education Department.

Special Education: Instructional Strategist I major (B.S.): This major is not a stand-alone major. Teacher candidates completing this major must also complete the Teacher Preparation Program for the elementary education major or for a secondary teaching major.

To apply for Special Education student teaching, click on special education application, fill out the form, print it, and bring it to the Education Department.

If you are student teaching in special education, you must fill out that form in addition to the one in your other major field.

A minor in special education and coaching and reading endorsements are also available.

To apply for Music Education student teaching, click on music application, fill out the form, print it, and bring it to the Education Department.
