PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE DISCLOSURES

Morningside University offers academic programs leading to degrees in a number of fields for which professional practice requires license or certification by state, local, or professional boards. The curricula in these programs have been designed to be consistent with recognized professional and national standards, as well as the standards set forth by the Iowa licensing boards governing each of these disciplines. However, the requirements of the state boards and licensing agencies vary greatly over time and from state to state.

Therefore, Morningside University makes no representation, warranty, or guarantee that successful completion of the degree or certificate program will permit or guarantee that a state board or licensing agency will accept a graduate’s application for licensure. No statement made at any time by any member of the Morningside faculty or any other representative of Morningside shall be deemed to be such a representation, warranty, or commitment.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The BSN program prepares students to sit for the national NCLEX-RN examination for licensure to become a Registered Nurse (RN). The RN-BSN does not lead to any type of licensure, as students are already licensed. To the best of our knowledge, the educational requirements for Morningside University Nylen School of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing substantially meet the same basic academic conditions for licensure in all 50 states. Some states have specific requirements beyond these basic academic conditions for licensure.

Advanced Practice Nursing Roles

Our APRN programs (Family Primary Care Nursing Practitioner and Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner) prepare students for national certification by an associated certifying body (American Nurse Credentialing Center, ANCC, or American Association of Nurse Practitioners, AANP). National certification is an expectation for practice nationwide. APRN authorization varies from state-to-state with some states awarding APRN licenses, some providing APRN endorsements on a nurse’s RN licenses, or other systems that have been designated by the state’s Board of Nursing. Students are encouraged to also contact the Board of Nursing in the state they wish to practice in determining additional practice information. The Clinical Nurse Leader track meet the educational requirements to sit for the national CNL certification through the Commission on Nurse Certification (CNC). The CNL does not lead to additional licensure. State licensure requirements may change and states may have conditions for licensure in addition to educational requirements. For additional information, contact the Graduate Nursing program at gradnurs@morningside.edu.Licensure information is reviewed and updated on this site in May of each year. Prospective students will be informed through our website and applicants will be notified upon receipt of the application of current licensure fulfillment status and state authorization.
